The possibility for international patentation expires january 2009. Without production an international patent is useless to Kardang Design. The option to patent is at this point only a strategic advantage for whichever manufacturer or distributor that would be interested in working with us. Kardang Design willn not pursue patentation unless it is in the interest of a future partner.
Should there be interest in the option to patent, Kardang Design has the advantagous position that facing competition from other designers, designing within the patent coverage, is beneficial to us.
Our main goal is to get the chair into production, and we will most likely strike the first and best opportunity to obtain financial freedom for other projects. This includes complete transfer of patentation rights and design rights. Should there be multiple interested parties, Kardang would choose one (or otherwise in understanding with all interested parties) partner in order to avoid conflicts of ownership a later stage.
